Identity and contact in adoption - Training

Using examples from and videos of adopters, adopted people and birth family members this course aims to support prospective adopters to understand the complex identity that adopted children have.

It will cover how as adopters you can support your child to develop a healthy sense of identity and manage the challenges that can arise and will explore how contact can support identity formation, the different contact options, expectations, alongside the benefits and challenges with these for young people and adopters. It will also consider how contact can be developed to meet the adopted young person’s needs in the future.
